Dive is run by the very experienced English diver Andy
Gray PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer [MSDT #52233], who
currently lives in Kaohsiung.
Andy began diving in the Mediterranean back in the mists
of time, but did not really get bitten by the dive bug
till he moved to Asia. He began PADI course training in
May of 1988, did his Ad.OW in January 1990 and his Rescue
Diver training later that year.
He became a PADI Dive Master in March '91 and worked as
a DM at various resorts in the Philippines and Thailand.
Andy attended a PADI IDC/IE in Singapore and became an
Open Water Scuba Instructor [OWSI #52233]in November of
'91. Since then he has been active as an instructor in
the Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan.
In 1992/93 Andy was employed by a German company OffCon
GmBh to train navy marines at the Tsoying Naval Base in
Kaohsiung. His work involved training and working with
mixed gases (Nitrox), Draeger closed circuit rebreather
systems, search and recovery, night diving and underwater
navigation. The training at the base also included deep
diving, using staged decompression methods to depths of
up to 80 metres, shallow and deep water search and rescue
techniques in day and night time and foul weather conditions.
In February 1993 Andy was awarded his current rating of
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer [MSDT #52233]. He is a
Specialty Instructor for Night Diver, Deep Diver, Underwater
Navigator, Drift Diver, Boat Diver, Wreck Diver, Underwater
Naturalist, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Photographer,
Project AWARE Specialist, AWARE Coral Reef Conservation
and AWARE Fish ID Diver.
Andy is also an Emergency First Response instructor [EFR
# 52233] teaching a variety of practical First Aid skills
which include CPR and defibrillation techniques.
Andy enjoys diving all over Asia and was a partner in
a dive business on Sipadan Island for a number of years.
He has logged well over 2000 dives. He still gets a huge
kick out of diving, as well as guiding and teaching groups
of divers and in passing on his considerable diving expertise,
experience and knowledge.
Equipment
The majority of the diving gear available for rent at
the dive shops in Kenting, Xiao Liu, Green or Orchid Islands
is average at best. To set this right, I have purchased
brand new Aquatec, weight integrated BCDs, Aqualung (US
Divers) Titan Ist stage and 2nd stage regulators, with
Aqualung or US divers AAs [octopuses] along with IST mini
gauges and compasses. This equipment, maintained in first
class condition, along with IST fins, masks, wet suits
and booties is available for rent at a reasonable price.
A full Medical Kit and an Oxygen Provider Kit accompanies
me on every boat dive and is close at hand (in my car)
on all training dives or fun dives from the shore.
